In an old family photo album, I found a photo of my great uncle Fred dressed in a clown costume--probably for Halloween.  He wasn't smiling.  He just had a somber look on his face as he leaned against the porch post to have his photo taken. I found it charming and sweet.  That photo inspired my illustration of the "Little Boy Clown".

The "Little Boy Clown" appears on the front of the postcard with the greeting "Happy Halloween". The back is printed to look like an antique postcard.
